• RMS Students get involved for the benefit of the RMS Foundation!

On March, 04, thirty students, themselves recipients of an RMS Foundation scholarship, spent their day raising awareness and collecting funds from all the other students in the campus, asking them to give 10€.
In total, 2 280€ have been collected, which will contribute to financing a scholarship.
• Grants
The second grant award ceremony of the Reims Management School foundation was held on December 11th.

This event brought together some thirty 2008 grant holders as well as donors, members of the RMS teaching staff and faculty and representatives of the school’s institutional partners.
Overall, since November 2007, 68 grants have been awarded for an amount exceeding €350,000.
• Chair in Management of Non Profit Organizations and Social Business: 2008 was a year full of events.
A qualitative study was carried out among management students to identify their understanding of the voluntary sector. Their answers are not surprising: the sector is recognized and appreciated for its usefulness, but is not considered as a sector of employment offering real employment and career opportunities.
The chair must therefore continue to conduct awareness operations among students. The opening of the Chair’s website is an example of this: it offers a variety of columns (activity descriptions, testimonies): www.chairemaes-rms.com

Another example of awareness-raising was the lecture on the promotion of voluntary service which was held at RMS on December 4th 2008.
The Red Cross, voluntary students, and university professors exchanged ideas at round tables on the academic and professional valuation of voluntary work. There were rich exchanges of ideas and this experience sharing will probably help improve the recognition of voluntary work within RMS.

It is with pleasure that I accept the mandate of President of the RMS Foundation which has been offered to me.
In my view, the difficult context we are currently facing makes the approach of the foundation all the more important: enabling deserving students whose resources are insufficient, to access excellence in education; advancing knowledge and teaching in the sector of nonprofit organizations and social business; encouraging companies to integrate social responsibility into their activities…
Which projects will the Foundation concentrate its energy on in 2009?
- Seeking donations from RMS graduates by encouraging them to participate in the intergenerational training effort
- Appealing to the generosity of national companies who already are RMS partners (internships, jobs, apprenticeship, pedagogical partnerships) offering them to add a social aspect to their commitment
- Associating regional companies to our approach so that together we become actors in the dynamics of our region.
- Making students aware of the Foundation’s cause by offering them to show solidarity and enabling them to contribute to the financing of a special “RMS Students’” grant.
I wish to thank you for your commitment and your trust.

| >> Focus on two donors |
Serge Fiammante, parent of a Sup de Co student

I thought it would be useful to participate, even modestly, in increasing the financial means of the RMS Foundation to enable it to acquire, if need be, complementary pedagogical resources or to re-enforce existing ones.
My approach remains very pragmatic; I am the parent of a student who has just started a first cycle of studies at Sup de Co and I would like the school to be able to engage the services of professors of national and international renown. I can only encourage other student parents to do the same.
Vincent Boude, Sup’TG 1997
Why have you chosen to support the RMS Foundation?
I thought the idea of the Foundation was interesting. I have always wanted to help young people, students to succeed, without however knowing how to do it, the means by which to act. A Foundation under the responsibility of RMS was reassuring and a guarantee of the good use of the money.
Which of the actions of the Foundation do you take most to heart?
To date, my wish is to support students100%.
I particularly appreciated the fact of being able to choose the use made of the donation.
I wish if possible to be able to follow the use made of the donation and the study path of the students, I find this motivating.
I also find it very important to be able to meet grant holders, but also to exchange with other donors, whether individuals or companies.
What would you say to future donors?
Remembrance:
Remember their more or less distant university days…
We did not all have the same means to succeed.
• For the luckiest, the family paid everything (school fees, accommodation, other costs…)
• For others, parents financed part of the cost and for the rest it was a matter of “resourcefulness”, small jobs…
• For the less well off, it was a bank loan
• And for some a lost dream
A donation makes it possible to avoid joining the school being only conditioned by financial criteria.
Solidarity :
• The duty to say thank you. Many company leaders already participate in the functioning of the school via the professional tax. Why not also thank the school more personally while making it possible for young people to enjoy the same professional success as we did.
• In this period of crisis, it is a good means to show solidarity and enable young people to succeed.
• What matters is not the amount, €50, €100 or more
• But just imagine the impact if all the alumni gave €50 each.
I can imagine the pride, the motivation felt by a student who obtains a grant to join a school like RMS.
REMEMBRANCE, SOLIDARITY, TRAINING …a successful formula and perhaps a means to fight the crisis!

| >>Testimony from one recipient of RMS Foundation scholarships |
Interview with
Vanessa Beziat
a second year Sup de Co
grant holder
What is your background?
I am 25 and come from the Lot department in the Midi Pyrenees region.
Before joining Sup de Co Reims in September 2008, I obtained a degree in foreign languages at the University of Toulouse 2 and then a Masters in International Affairs at the University of Orleans. In addition, I spent my fourth year in Spain within the framework of the Erasmus exchange program.
After theoretical studies at university, I wished to complement my study path with more practical and professional training through the apprenticeship scheme. I immediately thought of joining a Business school and after passing the Tremplin 2 competitive examination, I quickly chose Reims Management School.
What have been the benefits of the Foundation grant?
I was lucky to be awarded an RMS foundation grant last December. This grant covered 80% of the tuition fees linked to my Master cycle preparation. This grant proved very helpful, indeed, coming from a modest background, I finance my education by myself and I could not qualify for a student loan for lack of guarantee. This grant is a major financial relief and has enabled me to carry on with my studies more serenely.
What are your professional projects?
Even before joining the school, my project was to join the apprenticeship scheme. I am about to sign a contract with an auditing and chartered account firm in Paris, within which, I will be participating in audit assignments. After my apprenticeship and graduation, I envisage orientating my career towards company finance (auditing or management control) because I like working with figures. I really hope to work in an international environment and would like to start my career with a VIE (international volunteer assignment in a French company abroad) assignment.
What message would you like to convey to the Foundation’s future donors?
I would like to tell them that their donation can enable deserving students from a modest background to access high level training that they would never have been able to consider without financial support. Making a donation to the Foundation means giving a chance to a motivated student in need, and believing in his success. It also means favoring a melting pot of social origins within a school as well as diversity, a factor of enrichment. I will always be grateful to those who by their donation enabled me to get a grant, and, in turn I will be doing something this year to help the school’s students in need.
