• 18 new Foundation grants awarded
The Foundation’s 4th grant commission met on April 6th 2009.
Eighteen grants were awarded out of the total of 54 grant applications submitted. The beneficiaries were students from the following programs of Reims Management School: Sup de Co, Masters, CESEM and TEMA.

Encourage students
to take part in voluntary activities
Regarding the student awareness objective, the team has made progress on the implementation of a compulsory voluntary service day which is to be included in the Sup de Co curriculum and will concern first year students.

Contacts have been made with a number of local organizations and partnerships have been set up that will take effect at the start of the academic year 2009.
Partnerships have been developed with various associations and organizations so that the students can carry out their voluntary service day in a field that means something to them.
Thus within the framework of the event, “Reims as fast as your legs can carry you”, organized by the city of Reims (a marathon, semi-marathon and a10km race), some thirty students will be able to take part in running a supply point.
Other students will have the opportunity to enroll with the Red Cross, the Marne UNICEF Committee, the Food Bank, the Restos du Coeur, the Secours Populaire Français, Emmaus, the Association of Paralytics of France, and Max Havelaar ….
The 450 first year Sup de Co students will thus have the opportunity to experience a voluntary service day on a wide range of themes.

By forming a partnership with the Crédit Agricole du Nord Est and RMS-Network to create the RMS Foundation, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) not only expressed the wish to continue and strengthen its partnership with RMS and its students, but also to participate in a truly citizen and pedagogical project.
A citizen project: with the award each year of some 50 grants to RMS students having achieved excellent academic results, but facing major financial difficulties.
A pedagogical project: with the financing of major pedagogical and research actions such as the Chair in Management of Non Profit Organizations and Social Business.
As an RMS graduate and a PwC partner, I am particularly proud and happy to participate in this project which both answers students’ needs and contributes to building the reputation of the school.
After only two years of existence, the RMS Foundation is a very young foundation that is very promising, but also vulnerable and fragile. If it can boast major achievements, it will take time before we can assess its success through its ability to carry out durable actions resting on sustainable financing and partnerships.
The RMS Foundation has a wealth of projects, and today needs the commitment of all, graduates, students, national and regional firms, and local authorities… to complete them successfully. This is our commitment, but also our challenge which is also yours to some extent.

| >> Focus on a donor |
Fabrice Baj, Sup de Co 1987
Why have you chosen to support the RMS Foundation?
Even though I come from a modest social background, I was lucky to have parents who paid for my education. I wish to contribute to help future students who not all have this chance, all the more as the cost of studies has considerably increased since I graduated more than 20 years ago.
Which of the actions of the Foundation do you take most to heart?
Having worked for around twelve years on several continents, I have been confronted to various cultures; I am thus also sensitive to the possibility of offering the opportunity of accessing quality education in Reims to students from all nationalities. These students will also contribute to enrich the school.
What would you say to future donors?
All donations, however modest are welcome. In addition to the opportunity offered to the beneficiaries of these grants, I believe that social and cultural diversity are necessary and contribute to the quality of the training provided and to the influence of the School. |

Interview with
Alexandra On
a Sup de Co grant holder
What is your background?
My study path after passing the baccalaureate was somewhat complicated. I was first accepted in an HEC preparation class in the lycée Notre-Dame de Grandchamps in Versailles, but I had to leave the program at the end of my first year because I had to work alongside my studies, which was not compatible with the workload required. I then joined the University of Nanterre in the second year of a bachelor program in Economics and Management while continuing to work alongside (I was a manager at McDonald’s). At the end of that year I took and successfully passed the competitive entrance examinations to graduate business schools and I joined RMS.
What have been the benefits of the Foundation grant?
To tell the truth, my first year at RMS was extremely difficult from a financial point of view. The course schedule did not enable me to work regular hours. As a result, my income was just about sufficient to pay my rent. My financial situation was such that I would not have been able to continue studying at RMS if I had not obtained the RMS Foundation grant.
What are your professional projects?
I would like to work in the wine, champagne and luxury gastronomy sector. With this in mind I applied to join the wine and champagne specialization program offered by the Champagne Chair a research center created within RMS. In the long term, my dream is to create an event organization company.
What message would you like to convey to the Foundation’s future donors?
I would like to tell them that a donation to the foundation can prove useful in two ways: first of all, it enables students to access studies which they have always dreamt of following. But beyond this invaluable help, it also contributes to finance major research programs such as the Chair in Management of Non Profit Organizations and Social Business which enables all RMS students without distinction to benefit from a differentiated specialization.
